Nephila clavipes |
This spider is commonly known as the 'calico spider' and is one of the largest orb weaving spiders. It builds a large web often over a meter in diameter.

Above: this spider's web has another spider in it. The small white shape is a dewdrop spider.

Above: the tiny male lives in a small tangled web attached to the female's web.

Above: the strongest silk produced by this spider is golden in colour giving it the name 'Golden silk spider'.

Above: that's me looking at a young female Nephila.
