Gibbaranea omoeda |
Absent from Britain. This spider is found on and around pine trees. Belonging to the genus Gibbaranea, this species has two characteristic tubercles (humps) on its abdomen. The only purpose of these must be to make the spider look less spider-like as spiders make a good meal for a hungry bird.
